My paintings are principally done in water color because I love its luminosity. Water color can also be layered in thin washes that build up rich and complex hues. Sometimes pastel is used along with the paint, and occasionally collage is incorporated. My inspiration comes from the cycle of the year as the light changes from season to season. As a child I had a hard time finding an answer to the question, "What is your favorite color?" because I loved them all.
My process is to begin with a blank canvas, outwardly and inwardly. I strive to enable the color call forth the forms it wishes to inhabit. As the painting progresses, the final image is determined by the process itself or, one could say, the experience itself. As an "abstract expressionist", my intention is to let the viewer freely find her or his own story in the painting.
My husband thinks my paintings are playful, and that they help him to feel that he, too, would like to paint. I consider that a high compliment!
